Mohammed Shami was elated on dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara for a duck in the ongoing India-Leicestershire warm-up game, and celebrated it with a friendly send-off to his India teammate.

Pujara had registered scores of 6, 201*, 109, 12, 203, 16, 125* and 3 for Sussex in the County Championship earlier this season.

India bowlers have made a fine start to the second day of their ongoing warm-up game against Leicestershire, getting rid of the hosts’ top-order in the first hour of play. That was after they declared at an overnight score of 246/8, with Srikar Bharat and Mohammed Shami finishing unbeaten at 70 and 18 respectively, after rain forced early stumps on Day 1.

Shami struck in just the fourth over with the new ball, having skipper Samuel Evans caught in the first slip by Virat Kohli for 1. Not long after, he would castle his India teammate and No.3 Cheteshwar Pujara for a six-ball duck, and give the batter a friendly send-off as he headed back to the pavilion.

Shami banged one short on the fifth-stump line, and Pujara went for a punch off the backfoot, only to get an inside edge onto his stumps as the balls seamed in slightly. Shami went on a celebratory run, and headed to jump on Pujara and patted on his shoulder, after he’d already started to walk back.

Mohammed Siraj too joined the act, dismissing opener Louis Kimber (31) caught-behind, before cleaning up Joey Evinson (22) in quick succession thereafter. Rishabh Pant was unbeaten on 12, with Leicestershire 71/4 at the time of writing.

Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna are the other two Indian players in the hosts contingent for this game.

Earlier, India managed 246/8 on Day 1 after having opted to bat, with Bharat and Kohli (33) being the mainstays. Right-arm quick Roman Walker, who is yet to play a first-class game, dismissed skipper Rohit Sharma, Hanuma Vihari, Ravindra Jadeja, Kohli and Shardul Thakur to complete an impressive five-for.
