When David walked in to bat at No.5, Australia were reeling at 30/3. They lost their big guns – Mitchell Marsh (12), Travis Head (2), and Josh Inglis (0) cheaply.
David, along with Cameron Green, stitched a blazing partnership of 40 (16) to bring the hosts back in the game. However, wickets continued to topple for Australia. But the 29-year-old went on to add 83 runs off 52 balls. His fiery knock included eight maximums and four boundaries as he struck at over 269.
At the end of the first innings, Australia put up 178/10 as Nathan Ellis was run out on the last ball.
On the other hand, Maphaka picked up four wickets for 20 runs in his quota of four overs. He had earlier cleaned up both openers, Marsh and Head. He also dismissed Ben Dwarshuis, breaking a strong 59-run partnership with David. Later, Maphaka took David’s wicket as well.

Tim David’s Red Hot Form Continues
The right-handed batter played the role of a finisher for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Tim David was RCB’s saviour in the lower-middle order. Though he made just 187 runs in nine outings, he struck at 185.14 as he played shorter but impactful knocks. However, a hamstring injury sidelined David from a few matches towards the tail-end of the tournament.
Much recently, in West Indies, David smashed an unbeaten 102 off 37 to record the fastest century by an Australian. He pushed his team’s case to win by six wickets and bag the Man of the Match award. It was also his maiden century in the format.
