WATCH: KL Rahul plays ridiculous lap-flick for six; leaves Dwayne Bravo stunned with a helpless smile

WATCH: KL Rahul plays ridiculous lap-flick for six; leaves Dwayne Bravo stunned with a helpless smile

KL Rahul chipped in with a magnificent contribution to keep the Punjab Kings just about alive in their hunt for a top-four finish. He displayed an array of shots, all of them of the highest caliber, to power the Punjab Kings to a 6-wicket win, but one of the moments of the game came in the 12th over, when he looped Dwayne Bravo for a massive six towards fine leg.

Dwayne Bravo, who turns 38 today, had a forgettable outing with the ball every time he was up against Rahul. But the pinnacle of those troublesome moments for the West Indian cricketer was when Rahul played an unreal shot using his wrists, to lap it over the deep fine-leg fielder. Bravo was coming around the wicket to challenge Rahul’s judgment skills, but the Indian opener’s response was unequivocally staggering.

While it was understandable that Bravo had missed a blockhole by a small margin, Rahul’s vision to think of such an outrageous shot, capped by the innate skill in his wrists to execute it, provided us a moment to savor. Deepak Chahar at deep fine-leg failed to get close to the ball as he had hit it well wide of him, but it was worth noting that Rahul barely moved his legs while attempting such a ridiculous shot, and managing maximum returns.

KL Rahul astonishes with a 42-ball 98*

Punjab Kings needed a big win heading into this game to give themselves a reasonable chance of staying alive. Having done a decent job with the ball, restricting CSK to 134 runs, skipper KL Rahul wasted no time to get going with the bat. He ensured the scoring rate remained over 9 throughout the run chase, killing any possible suspense in the result very early on.

He finished with a staggering 42-ball 98, and remained unbeaten. This victory escalated them above the Mumbai Indians on the points table, but for them to qualify (which appears unlikely still), they need a massive win from Rajasthan Royals against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
