He led Afghanistan to two wins after losing the tournament opener.
In Match No.6 of the T20I Tri-series on Friday, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan is not playing for their fixture against the hosts, the United Arab Emirates. In his absence, Ibrahim Zadran will lead the side against UAE.
The news from the match centre in Sharjah is that, Afghanistan have won the coin toss and will be batting first. The Afghans have made as many as six changes for this fixture. Gulbadin Naib and wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Ishaq will join forces with the willow. Rashid’s replacement, Mujeeb Ur Rahman will join Noor Ahmad and Sharaffudin Ashraf in the spin department. Fareed Ahmad and Abdollah Ahmadzai will bolster the pace attack.
Meanwhile, Rashid has joined the bench with Mohammad Nabi, Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, AM Ghazanfar, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Rashid Khan was part of the three matches so far. He led the side to two wins after losing the tournament opener to Pakistan. He is also the highest wicket-taker of the tournament, with six scalps at a reputable average of 12.83.
However, Rashid is not playing in this AFG vs UAE clash as he has been rested for the dead-rubber.
Pakistan won all their three matches in the Tri-series. Meanwhile, the hosts lost all their games. As a result, Pakistan and Afghanistan have already qualified for the Tri-series final on September 7.
With the Asia Cup 2025 just a few days away, the 26-year-old leggie is given some rest. He may play the final against the Men in Green.
The UAE, on the other hand, are playing their last match of the tournament.
Without much gap, Afghanistan will lock horns with Hong Kong in the Asia Cup opener on September 9 in Abu Dhabi. They will then face Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on September 16 and 18, respectively, in the league-stage. The skipper is expected to play all games in the multi-national event.
