He has an average of 29.08 and a strike rate of 123.75 in 26 innings this year.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Devon Conway has continued his lean patch and endured another tough series in international cricket. In two T20Is against Australia, Conway registered scores of 1 and 0, showing no signs of improvement.
Overall, he has 698 runs at an average of 29.08 and a strike rate of 123.75 in 26 innings, including five fifties, this year. Additionally, he has taken as many as 5.93 deliveries for every boundary and often scored slowly, even when he made a decent score.
His poor form started last year itself, when he averaged 34.14 and struck at 130.24 across 18 outings, including four fifties, but it has become more evident now. His T20I decline forced New Zealand to drop him, while CSK in IPL 2025 and Texas Super Kings (TSK) in MLC 2025 also benched him for a few matches due to his poor form.
An injury to Finn Allen opened doors for Conway, but he failed to grab his chances and might be out of contention again, especially since Tim Seifert has done immensely well lately. He has had ample chances to regain his form and claim a spot in the XI, but selectors might look beyond him now.
Chennai Super Kings endured their worst IPL season in 2025, with most players failing to perform their jobs. Among them was Devon Conway, who scored 156 runs at a mediocre average of 26 and a strike rate of 131.09 in six innings, including two fifties.

CSK bought him for INR 6.25 crores in the IPL 2025 auction, but Conway didn’t justify his price tag, and the team had no confidence in his abilities. Hence, they should release him and free the purse to get better players in the auction.
CSK need a pace-bowling all-rounder in the middle and will require a big budget. Additionally, they require a pace-hitter in the lower middle order to replace MS Dhoni in the long run.
Conway’s recent form hasn’t done any good to his reputation, and it’s hard to see him performing in IPL when he has failed in other leagues like MLC and SA20. If CSK want, they can rebuy him at a lower price since he won’t be in high demand, but for now, they must release him to have purse and an overseas slot.
