Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has expressed his displeasure towards a few cricketers for staying in close proximity with journalists, who doesn’t show enough respect to the players. Prasad’s comments came after veteran wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha faced threats on WhatsApp after he was dropped from the squad for the Sri Lanka Tests.
On Saturday, February 19, Saha made public a set of scathing messages sent to him by a “respected” journalist. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in no mood to die wondering after the incident. The world’s richest cricket board is delving deep into the matter and find more details about the journalist who sent Saha the texts.
Prasad reckoned that it’s important for the players to identify people, who show respect and empathy towards the cricketers in their hard times. The veteran also lashed out at a few cricketers for “enjoying the buttering”.
“While there are some exceptional sports journalists, who love the game, are passionate and respect the players while having boundaries, certain entitled ones just because of proximity to big players have been bullies report just to sensationalize with no knowledge & substance
“It is equally important for players who give these kind of brash journalist a platform & unnecessary access to have better sense of who to be close to and have a clear boundary. I am afraid some top players have lacked that sense just because they enjoy the buttering.”

Saha, considered as one of India’s most efficient keepers, recently said that chief selector Chetan Sharma conveyed to him that he wouldn’t be considered from now on. On asking Sharma, Saha said that the team wanted to try out new faces and give them chances on a consistent basis.
Earlier, after the team announcement, Sharma had told that the four players were dropped only for the Sri Lanka Tests. However, Saha had something contradictory to reveal. Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishant Sharma are the other three players who won’t be a part of the Lanka Tests.
The Test series starts on March 4 with the opening game at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The second Test, starting March 12, is a Day-Night affair at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
