Trent Boult got the Royals off to a fantastic start with the ball in their defence of 165.
Lucknow Super Giants were part of yet another thriller in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday (April 10), this time against Rajasthan Royals. They lost by just three runs chasing 166 and the fact that it got so close was due to Marcus Stoinis who was sensational with his hitting in the death overs.
However, the 166-run chase at the Wankhede stadium should’ve been a cakewalk is what history suggests. But it wasn’t, thanks to Trent Boult who nipped out LSG skipper and opened KL Rahul off the very first ball of the innings with an excellent inswinging delivery.
Trent Boult came steaming in from around the wicket and delivered a peach. It was a full delivery and tailed back in significantly even as Rahul played all around it only to leave a big gap between bat and pad for the ball to thud into his stumps. It was a dream start for the Royals with the ball in their defence.
Meanwhile, the dismissal was eerily similar for KL Rahul to the one against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup last year. It didn’t take long for the Indian fans to get nostalgic about the dismissal. Shaheen Afridi had shattered Rahul’s stumps with an exactly similar delivery with the only difference being that the left-arm seamer had come over the wicket.
A video of both the dismissals went viral soon after Trent Boult exposed Rahul’s weakness against the moving ball yet again.

Speaking about the dismissal after the match, Trent Boult revealed that his New Zealand teammate Jimmy Neesham who is also part of Rajasthan Royals this season gave him an idea to bowl around the wicket and create an angle to KL Rahul.
“It was a late call at breakfast, and it was Jimmy Neesham’s idea to go with that plan against KL Rahul. I don’t want to give him too much credit (laughs),” he said. Even the Royals skipper Sanju Samson was amazed as Boult only told him about the plan just before the first ball was bowled.
“(Boult) Came to me before the first ball, told me ‘Sanju change of plan, I’m going to go around the wicket, and going straight in his legs and hit that bowled’. Funny to be around and his skills are commendable,” Samson said.
