Rhodes took the route of Indians as he falls at Tendulkar's feet as a mark of respect
Last night’s TATA Indian premier league match saw the Punjab kings defeat the Mumbai Indians by 12 runs. This made Mumbai Indians‘ losing streak continue as they have now lost all five of the matches they have played in this year’s IPL. There were some newsworthy moments that happened yesterday but one that caught many by surprise was Jonty Rhodes, the legendary South African cricketer and current fielding coach of the Punjab kings, touching the feet of the great Sachin Tendulkar.
The incident occurred after the match as the teams were shaking hands with one another. When Jonty went close to Tendulkar, he suddenly decided to fall down to his feet and touch it as a mark of respect being shown to the person who is globally recognized as the “GOD of Cricket”.
Tendulkar tried his best to stop Rhodes from doing that but the latter still got his way around. Tendulkar decided to hug him afterward. This is not the first time someone has reached Tendulkar to touch his feet as Yuvraj Singh did the same during a game between MCC vs ROW back in 2014 and in the year 2010, the little master Sunil Gavaskar would try to touch Sachin’s feet for which he responded with “Nako, Nako”, which meant no in Marathi.

Jonty Rhodes could have also done this as he is a huge fan of India. He loves India so much that he decided to name her daughter after the beautiful country. The culture and every other aspect of India made Rhodes like the country even more, which we saw when he did the trademark gesture of falling and touching Tendulkar’s feet.. Doing it to Tendulkar signifies how much impact he made not only in India but also outside of India during his cricketing career. The man was loved by billions across the world for his gameplay and down-to-earth character, which made him a global icon and inspiration for the generations to come.
