Hardik Pandya misses funny run-out attempt after dislodging the stumps with his back foot

Kashish Chadha

Hardik Pandya made a funny error in his attempted run-out, disloging the stumps with his leg before even collecting the ball.

Usually safe and sound in the field, Hardik Pandya was involved in a funny error off his own bowling in the closing stages of Gujarat Titans’ (GT) bowling effort in Friday (April 8) night’s IPL 2022 match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS).

In what should’ve been a straightforward run-out, PBKS’ No.11 batter Arshdeep Singh survived after Titans’ skipper and premier allrounder dislodged the stumps with his back leg before even grabbing hold of the ball to finish off the dismissal.

Taking the throw coming from the deep into his hands, Hardik Pandya looked all set to save a crucial run for his team on the last ball of PBKS’ first-innings via a run-out. But an error from the Indian cricketer gave the last man in a reprieve and allowed him to complete that extra run.

Facing a short-ball from Hardik Pandya on the final ball of the 20th over in PBKS’ batting effort, No.11 Arshdeep smashed the ball through the on-side and looked to get across for a two alongside his batting partner Rahul Chahar.

The throw coming in from the deep mid-wicket region, however, was wayward and went a bit far from the Titans’ wicketkeeper Matthew Wade. Sensing an opportunity to squeeze in the third run, Arshdeep asked Chahar to continue running and aimed to make the ground at the bowling end.

But Wade made a timely throw at Hardik’s end with Arshdeep well short of his crease. At this point, it should’ve been an easy run-out. However, to everyone’s disbelief, Hardik Pandya let go the opportunity by disturbing the stumps with his back leg even before he collected the ball and finished off the run-out.

While he missed out on the run-out, Hardik Pandya would’ve been pleased with his overall bowling effort for the night.

Bowling his entire quote, and bowling it full tilt with his speeds in excess of 135-140 kmph, the 28-year-old returned with figures of 1/36 off his 4 overs after operating in the powerplay and at the death for Titans.
