‘Baseless rumours’ – Mohammed Shami claims reports of his fresh injury false

His absence would have left a significant void in the bowling attack, especially in Australia, where his superior skillsets will be more than handy.

A few reports suggest Mohammed Shami has developed a fresh injury and will miss the impending Border-Gavaskar Trophy later in the year. However, Shami has called such reports false, urging the public to stop believing in such rumours.

He said he is trying hard to recover, and neither BCCI nor he has mentioned anything he is out of the Australia tour. He has also requested everyone to stop spreading fake news without his statement via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Why these type of baseless rumors? I’m working hard and trying my level best to recover.  Neither the BCCI nor me have mentioned that I am out of the Border Gavaskar series. I request the public to stop paying attention to such news from unofficial sources. Please stop and don’t spread such fake fake fake & fake news, especially without my statement.”

His post has come as a massive relief for everyone, for further setbacks would have been hard for him and his team. His absence would have left a significant void in the bowling attack, especially in Australia, where his superior skillsets will be more than handy.

Mohammed Shami might return for New Zealand Tests

A BCCI source close to the developments has revealed to TOI that Shami’s recovery is on track, and he might return to the setup during the New Zealand series. Further, he is being monitored by the relevant team as he completes his rehab.

“Shami’s rehab is very much on track. New Zealand Tests are being kept as a realistic target. He is under watchful eyes of BCCI specialists and making very good progress,” quoted a senior BCCI official to TOI.

A few reports earlier stated Shami had developed a swollen knee during his rehab, which will keep him out of action for at least 6-8 weeks. Now, Shami has quashed such reports and confirmed he is recovering well.

His last competitive cricket came in World Cup 2023, where he was the leading wicket-taker. He underwent surgery to repair his Achilles tendon and has been working intensively with NCA as he looks to make a return.
