Gujarat Titans (GT) set to make three shock releases ahead of the IPL 2025 auction

We look at three shock releases GT might make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Gujarat Titans (GT) were one of the most successful teams in the previous cycle, for they won the title in 2022 and came second by the barest of margins in the 2023 edition. While they couldn’t qualify for playoffs in the 2024 season, they still had a decent unit, with several quality players.

Like every other team, GT will also find it hard to pin down their retentions and will be forced to leave out a few good options. Their main task would be to ensure the core remains intact without overpaying any player and leaving out a few of them as per their auction value.

We look at three shock releases GT might make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

David Miller

David Miller was one of the crucial players behind GT’s immense success in the initial two seasons, for he batted in the middle order and did the finishing job. In fact, he was among the leading run-scorers of Gujarat Titans in the initial two seasons.

However, GT will release him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, for Miller’s price won’t be as high in the auction. The team can always re-bid and get him back at a lower amount.

Rahul Tewatia

Doing a tough job of batting in the lower order, Rahul Tewatia played several crucial knocks for GT in the previous cycle. However, he might not be worth enough to spend a retention slot or give a retention amount.

The Impact Player rule has taken away his bowling value, which should play a role in his release. It’s not wise to spend so much on a one-dimensional player who doesn’t even face too many balls with the bat.

Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami might be the most shocking name, but GT might release him for multiple reasons. First of all, he is injury-prone and has been out of action for a while, and it remains to be seen whether he can bowl with the same penetration on his return.

Further, his value might not surge as high as the retention amount, especially after his recent absence. Hence, GT might release him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, and if they find the price reasonable, they can use RTM on him.
