Former RCB star denies South Africa central contract

He will however be eligible for ICC events.

In a recent development coming in, a former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star has decided to opt out of his Cricket South Africa (CSA) central contract.

According to reports, the decision was taken with mutual consent after left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi’s discussions with the CSA Board and is effective immediately.

It has been understood that by taking this route, the 34-year-old will be able to participate in franchise T20 leagues around the globe if and when they clash with the international calendar. Notably, Shamsi has also been an extremely sought-after name in the shortest format of the game across major leagues worldwide for his skillset.

Tabraiz Shamsi will be eligible for ICC events despite opting out of central contract

Although Tabraiz Shamsi has opted out of the central contract, he will continue to play an essential role in South Africa’s white-ball strategy. Cricket South Africa (CSA) supports Shamsi’s decision, ensuring that the leg-spinner will be considered for selection in major ICC tournaments, as long as his form and fitness allow.

Speaking after the developments, Enoch Nkwe, CSA’s Director of Cricket said,

“Shamo is a key member of our white-ball squads, and while we respect his decision, we are pleased that he remains committed to representing South Africa. We sincerely appreciate his honesty and openness on the matter, which is integral and what we want from our players.”

In addition to his Proteas duties, Shamsi will maintain his commitments to his domestic team, the Titans. In his official statement, the wrist-spinner explained that this choice provides him with more career flexibility, while reaffirming his dedication to both South Africa and the Titans.
