Suryakumar Yadav on the verge of equalling Virat Kohli’s T20I record

SKY is just 39 runs away from equalling Virat Kohli's record.

India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is on the verge of reaching a massive landmark and in the process, can equal former India skipper and star batter Virat Kohli in the ongoing three-match India vs Bangladesh T20I series.

SKY is just 39 runs away from equalling Virat Kohli’s record to become the second-fastest batter in the world to score 2500 runs in the shortest format of the game.

Kohli, who made his retirement from T20Is in June 2024 following India’s victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, had achieved the milestone in 73 matches.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has amassed 2461 runs in 72 T20I appearances to date.

A 39-run contribution in the second T20I against Bangladesh will see him equal Kohli’s record in the same number of matches.

However, the overall fastest to reach 2500 T20I runs is Pakistan’s former captain, Babar Azam, who accomplished the feat in just 67 games.

Suryakumar is poised to join these cricketing legends, adding another milestone to his remarkable T20I career.

Suryakumar Yadav looked in explosive form in the series opener

In the first T20I against Bangladesh, Suryakumar delivered an explosive 29 off 14 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 207.14.

India cruised to a seven-wicket victory, bowling Bangladesh out for 127 and comfortably chasing the target with 49 balls remaining.

Arshdeep Singh led the charge with the ball, taking 3/14, while Varun Chakravarthy and Mayank Yadav also took key wickets.

With India leading the three-match series 1-0, attention shifts to Suryakumar’s performance in the second T20I on Wednesday (October 9).

A win would seal the series for India, extending their dominant run following a 2-0 Test series triumph against Bangladesh.
