Shane Watson Predicts a Big Series for Swashbuckling India Batter in Australia

He has played a few magnificent knocks in Australia, so no wonder Watson backs him to come good again in an away series.

The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy will present an opportunity for India to make it a hat-trick of series wins Down Under. They have won the previous two away series in Australia in 2018/19 and 2020/21, with their second series win being nothing less than a miracle.

Meanwhile, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has kept high hopes from a swashbuckling Indian batter. He recalled his previous performances on Australian soil while backing his case.

According to Watson, Rishabh Pant will have a big series in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has played a few magnificent knocks in Australia, so no wonder Watson backs him to come good again in an away series.

“He’s [Pant] obviously got great memories from his last tour that he had from a batting perspective in Australia,” Watson said. “That innings he played at the Gabba was something very special. So knowing that he’s come through his challenges in the last couple of years to be able to come back as an even better player than what he left off, I think he’s going to have a big series,” stated Watson on the sidelines of the launch of the International Masters League in Mumbai.

Rishabh Pant has a terrific record in Australia

If we look at his previous performances, Rishabh Pant has always performed exceptionally well on Australian soil. He has scored 624 runs at a marvellous average of 62.40, including two fifties and a century, in 12 Test innings in Australia.

He has weaved some iconic knocks and played a crucial role in making India champions during the 2020/21 series. His knock in Gabba stood out, for he not only instilled confidence in the group but also remained unbeaten on 89 to help India script history by winning their second straight series in Australia.

With India set to tour there again, they will want Pant to perform the same way again. The team will have a few new players, and the responsibility will be on him to lead the charge.

Pant has all the skillsets to succeed again. His recent form has also been quite good, and the team will hope he replicates his heroics.
