RCB Pacer Comes Out on Top in the Battle of India Test Prospects on Day 1 of Ranji Trophy 2024/25

He has been impressive with the red ball lately

A Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star got the better of a batter seen as an Indian prospect on the first day of Ranji Trophy 2024/25. The bowler has been in fine form lately and provided an ideal start to his team with the new ball.

Yash Dayal, the left-arm pacer of RCB, dismissed Abhimanyu Easwaran on a score of 5 on the final delivery of the fifth over. Easwaran has been among the most consistent batters in the domestic arena and is close to getting selected for the Indian side, especially in the absence of one of the openers.

He would have liked to continue his good form, but the left-arm pacer cut his innings short to provide an early breakthrough to Uttar Pradesh. Dayal has been impressive with the red ball lately, for he also bowled well in the Duleep Trophy, and his potential was noticed by selectors immediately.

Yash also got a call-up to the national team during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, even though he couldn’t play any games. Later, he was released from the squad to play in the Irani Cup, where he couldn’t perform according to expectations.

Sudip Chatterjee hits a marvellous ton to provide stability

While Abhimanyu Easwaran couldn’t score big, Bengal’s other opener Sudip Chatterjee joined hands with Sudip Kumar Gharami to stabilise the innings. The duo formed a massive 198-run margin for the second wicket to put Bengal’s innings back on track after an early wicket.

Unfortunately, Sudip got out on a score of 90 after looking so good. However, Sudip continued his innings and notched up a marvellous ton to keep his end tight.

However, Bengal again lost a few quick wickets after a big partnership for the second wicket. From 212/1, Bengal slipped to 236/6, losing as many as five wickets in 24 runs.

Vipraj Nigam wreaked havoc with a slightly older ball to trigger a collapse, taking three quick wickets to put Uttar Pradesh back in the driver’s seat. Meanwhile, Saurabh Kumar got the big fish, Sudip Chatterjee, who departed after a well-made 116 as Bengal are currently at 237/6 in 74 overs.
