Former Pakistan skipper faces the axe for 2nd England Test: Reports

The development comes after the Men in Green suffered a historic loss in the opening Test at Multan.

In a recent development coming in, a former Pakistan skipper is set to be dropped from the team for the upcoming Pakistan vs England 2nd Test, slated to start on October 15.

The development comes after the Men in Green suffered a historic loss in the opening Test at Multan.

Pakistan became the first team to lose a Test match after scoring over 500 runs in the first innings.

Pakistan appeared to be in control of the match, posting a huge first-innings total of 556. However, they crumbled to an innings and 47-run defeat in Multan after England responded with a massive 827/3d and then bundled out the hosts for 220 in the second innings.

Now, an ESPNcricinfo report reveals that the newly formed selection committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) met in Lahore hours after the loss in the first Test on Friday (October 11) and recommended dropping Babar Azam.

Babar’s stats have been extremely disappointing

Following the defeat, Pakistan captain Shan Masood expressed strong support for Babar Azam, referring to him as “Pakistan’s best batter” and emphasizing the need for more patience with players.

However, behind the scenes, the selection panel reportedly believed that Babar could benefit from a break from the national team, as his run drought continues.

Babar hasn’t registered a Test half-century since December 2022 and his form has come under increasing scrutiny with each poor performance.

His struggles were evident against England, where he managed just 35 runs across two innings on a flat pitch. He was beaten both on the inside edge in the first innings and the outside edge in the second.

This extended his streak without a half-century in Test matches to 18 innings. Since the beginning of 2023, Babar has averaged less than 21 across nine Tests.
