India to play internal warm-up match before Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Indian selectors have yet to announce the India 'A' squad, but it is expected to be revealed within a week.

In a recent development coming in, it is being understood that the Men in Blue side that will travel to Down Under for the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) will play a solitary warm-up game before the start of the highly-anticipated series.

However, the contest will be an internal match against the visiting India ‘A’ team.

India ‘A’ will have travelled to Australia a few weeks prior for a two-game series and will remain for a three-day warm-up game from November 15 to 17 at the WACA in Perth.

The first Australia vs India Test is scheduled to take place at the new Perth Stadium starting on November 22.

Speaking on the same, a Cricket Australia (CA) official said, “It’s (an) internal (match), so up to India how they use the game. Maybe some of the Test players may play in the India A games but again up to the BCCI. Not many countries seem to play warm up games these days. Australia didn’t play any before the last series in India”.

India ‘A’ likely to be captained by a talented batting sensation

Before their warm-up match, the India ‘A’ team, expected to be led by batting superstar Ruturaj Gaikwad and possibly including some regular Test players, will have already played two games against Australia ‘A’.

The first game is set to take place at the Great Barrier Reef Arena from October 31 to November 3, while the second match will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from November 7 to 10.

The Indian squad for these matches has yet to be announced, though selectors are expected to reveal the team within a week.

On the other hand, the Australia ‘A’ squad will be named on Monday (October 14) by chief selector George Bailey, who has called for an official press conference.

There may also be an update regarding Cameron Green, whose participation in the Border-Gavaslar Trophy remains uncertain due to a back injury.
