Three shock retentions RCB might make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction

Let’s find out three players whom RCB might shockingly retain ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were among the most consistent teams in the previous cycle, qualifying for the playoffs twice in three seasons. Even when they missed out on playoffs in the 2023 season, RCB fell a win short in the end.

Ahead of a fresh cycle, RCB will be tempted to take a few bold calls and leave out a few quality players. However, they might look to retain a few unpopular players whom fans and experts are expecting to be released.

Let’s find out three players whom RCB might shockingly retain ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Faf du Plessis

The general impression and almost every expert feels Faf du Plessis, RCB’s captain in the previous cycle, should be released ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. The main reason provided is his age, for Faf might not endure another IPL cycle due to being 40 already.

However, his recent form suggests Faf is in no mood to stop, and he also won the CPL 2024 as a captain, stamping his authority as a leader. Given he is among the fittest players, RCB can look to retain him and see how far he goes in the next cycle, for he can definitely play for at least a couple of years more.

Suyash Prabhudessai

While RCB didn’t use him properly, Suyash Prabhudessai is among the most exciting domestic players going around. He is a ferocious striker of the ball, especially vs pace, and can be flexible with his batting position.

Given how rare it is to find pace-hitters in the domestic circuit, RCB can look to use an uncapped retention slot for Prabhudessai. He can be a long-term investment, and if used slightly up in the order, the 26-year-old can do wonders with the willow.

Manoj Bhandage

Unfortunately, Manoj Bhandage didn’t get an opportunity to represent RCB in the previous edition despite having superior capabilities in one of the toughest roles in T20 cricket. He is among the most consistent batters as a finisher, as visible during the recently concluded Maharaja Trophy, where he was unstoppable while batting in the lower order.

Further, he is also a decent medium pacer, and his bowling can be handy with precise use. Teams often use an overseas slot for a finisher, but Manoj can do it without wasting an overseas spot while also providing some bowling value, so RCB can look to use that uncapped retention slot on him.
