Evin Lewis Eyes IPL 2025 Return with a Point to Prove
With the IPL auction approaching, teams are deep into scouting, and players know they must perform well to catch attention. Evin Lewis, who last played for Lucknow Super Giants in 2022, took a break from the IPL after being released but will be eager to return.

Lewis struggled in the recent CPL, scoring 248 runs in 10 matches, but scored a hundred in one of the games. He bounced back recently with a strong 50 off 28 balls against Sri Lanka, leading his team to a five-wicket win. Having played 27 IPL matches with 4 half-centuries, the explosive batter could attract interest at the auction.
Now, let’s take a look at three teams that might target Evin Lewis.
Gujarat Titans, after winning the 2022 season and reaching the final in 2023, had a disappointing campaign in 2024. With the IPL 2025 auction approaching, GT are likely to release players like Matthew Wade and Kane Williamson, while they may retain David Miller as their key overseas middle-order batter.
However, the Titans currently lack an overseas option in the top order, which could push them to target Evin Lewis. His explosive style aligns with GT’s need for a dynamic opener who can provide the blistering starts they missed last season. Lewis might also come significantly cheaper than some of the other overseas openers.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who reached the Eliminator last season, are expected to make several changes in the upcoming auction. While their captain Faf is likely to be released, RCB doesn’t have many overseas batters they are keen on retaining, with Will Jacks being one potential retention. With Lewis, RCB have a potential replacement for Faf at the top with him also opening up a left-right combo possibility at the top.
However, the team lacks depth in the top order, making Evin Lewis an exciting option for them to consider. His aggressive batting could complement RCB’s lineup, adding firepower at the top and easing the pressure on their middle order.
Mumbai Indians, who finished last in IPL 2024, are likely to make significant changes for the upcoming season. While they have a solid top six, all their key batters are Indian, leaving them without an overseas player to provide an aggressive start at the top.
With Dewald Brevis unlikely to be retained, Mumbai might target Evin Lewis to fill that gap. His explosive style could offer the perfect boost in the powerplay, giving them a much-needed overseas option in the top order.
