Delhi Capitals Going To Retain Only 3 Indian Players for IPL 2025, Reveals Journalist

Delhi Capitals is unlikely to use all their retention quotas.

The deadline for submitting the retained players list ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) mega-auction is drawing closer (October 31) and speculations are rife about which players will be retained by the franchises.

Recently, the BCCI announced the new player retention rules, and as per the regulations, each franchise has been allowed to retain a maximum of 6 players using direct retention and the Right to Match (RTM) options.

There has been a lot of chatter regarding Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant’s possible destination next season. However, a PTI journalist confirmed with a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), that contrary to reports, Pant will be retained by the franchise for the next season.

Not just that, the journalist also namedropped two other stars who might make the retention cut.

While Pant will get INR 18 crore, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will be the next two retentions, and they will bag INR 14 crore and INR 11 crore respectively.

DC unlikely to use all retention quotas

Notably, it is understood that Delhi Capitals will choose to retain only three players, meaning they will not utilize all their available retention spots. By opting for just three retentions, the team will enter the auction with additional Right to Match (RTM) cards, allowing them the opportunity to reacquire players such as Tristan Stubbs, Mitchell Marsh, Harry Brook, and Jake Fraser-McGurk. According to reports, DC plans to use their RTMs specifically for Fraser-McGurk and Stubbs.
