‘KL-PD’: Fans urge KL Rahul to be dropped after another poor show in IND vs NZ 1st Test

Rahul departed for a duck in the first innings and then could only add 12 runs in the second.

India batter KL Rahul continued his poor string of performances and once again had a disappointing outing in the ongoing IND vs NZ 1st Test, which has sparked a lot of criticism.

Rahul departed for a duck in the first innings and then could only add 12 runs in the second.

The Indian top order put up a stellar display to make amends for the horror show in the first innings where the Men in Blue registered their lowest-ever total in Tests at home (46 all out).

India were placed in a decent position, having amassed 408 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Rahul walked in after Sarfaraz Khan departed following a stellar knock of 150 and the momentum was on India’s side.

The dynamic right-hander was expected to build on the existing platform alongside Rishabh Pant, who was batting from the other end. While Pant continued to take on the bowlers, KL Rahul started off with caution.

However, Pant was soon involved in an unfortunate dismissal as he got bowled at 99. It was then expected that KL Rahul would take over the onus of propelling the India scoreboard but he failed to deliver once again. India could eventually add 29 runs more following Pant’s out as Rahul squandered a golden chance to script a mammoth comeback for India.

Fans were left extremely disappointed with Rahul’s display and urged the management to sideline him.

Check some of the reactions that followed below.

KL Rahul struggles to perform despite backing from the management

While KL Rahul has received the backing of the management including Rohit and Gambhir, the 32-year-old could not impress with his performances.

Prior to the Bangladesh series, Rohit Sharma had said,

“With KL we know what his calibre is and we wanted him to play all games. We want him to bring the best out of him.

Rahul has faced significant criticism of late, due to his inconsistent performance in the longest format. After a seven-month hiatus, his return in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai didn’t go as expected, with scores of 16 and an unbeaten 22.

Despite these challenges, he continues to be a key figure in India’s strategy, although questions persist about his future in the longer format.
