A Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer gave an exhilarating bowling display in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, picking up a fifer in the match between Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
Deepak Chahar, who joined CSK back in 2018 for just INR 80 lakhs, was bought back by the franchise in IPL 2022 auction for a hefty sum of INR 14 crores.
Although he has been an integral cog of the side, Chahar had a subpar outing in the last season (IPL 2024), picking up just 5 wickets in 8 games.
Thus, his recent performance in the Ranji Trophy will offer him a much-needed shot at redemption ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction.
Chahar was on a roll as he ripped apart the Himachal Pradesh batting order in the second innings on Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy match.
The 32-year-old pacer bagged five wickets while giving away only 30 runs. His victims were Prashant Chopra (4), Ankit Kalsi (6), Ekant Sen (0), Abhinandan Bhardwaj (10) and Mukul Negi (1).
Speaking about the match, Deepak Chahar’s heroics ensured Himachal were shot out for 98 in reply to Rajasthan’s first-innings total of 334.
Himachal had a strong start after being forced to follow on, with openers Arora and Chopra putting together a 103-run partnership.
Manav Suthar provided a crucial breakthrough for Rajasthan, dismissing Arora for 59. Chopra followed 37 runs later, falling to the same bowler and missing his half-century by just one run.
Kalsi and Sen then steadied the innings, remaining unbeaten at 30 and 4 respectively by the end of the day’s play.

At stumps, the hosts were 147 for 2, still trailing Rajasthan by 89 runs.
