‘Naseem better than Bumrah’: Young Pakistan pacer sparks controversy

Bumrah was the player of the tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Pakistan fast bowler Ihsanullah has stated on a podcast that his teammate Naseem Shah is better than the top fast bowler of India, Jasprit Bumrah. While Bumrah is one of the world’s best bowlers, Ihsanullah feels Naseem’s talent is even greater.

On a public digital exclusive podcast, Pakistani fast bowler Ihsanullah boldly claimed that Naseem Shah is better than India’s superstar, Jasprit Bumrah. Although Bumrah has earned praise for his consistent performances, Ihsanullah shared his belief in Naseem’s talent and potential. He also emphasized Naseem’s ability to regularly produce match-winning performances.

“If I compare Bumrah, then Naseem Shah is a better bowler than Bumrah,” Ihsanullah said on the podcast.

When asked about Bumrah’s superior performance, the pacer further said that:

“No, you are seeing that. Naseem Shah was also performing like this in the 2021 (2022) World Cup. It doesn’t matter if someone doesn’t perform too well in a year. Still, Naseem Shah is better than him.

Bumrah has been exceptional in recent ICC tournaments. He was a key player in India’s 2023 ODI World Cup, taking 20 wickets. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, he performed even better, claiming 15 wickets with an outstanding average of 8.26. His efforts earned him the Player of the Tournament award and helped India secure their first ICC trophy since 2013. Known for delivering under pressure and changing the course of games, Bumrah has cemented his place as one of the world’s best bowler.

On the other hand, from Pakistan’s promising fast-bowling bench, young sensation Naseem Shah has shown promise in the early stages of his career. His ability to bowl at speed and swing has proved the turning point for Pakistan across formats. Recently, however, Naseem found himself out of the Test squad after having some inconsistent performances.

He is still a long way off to match Bumrah, considering the injuries too had affected his growth and he has a lot of work to do to reach Bumrah’s level.
