Young Delhi Capitals star hits century months after heart surgery

His century came at a crucial time.

A Delhi Capitals youngster, who underwent heart surgery earlier this year in July, made a resounding comeback by notching up a scintillating century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy during the match between Delhi and Tamil Nadu.

Yash Dhull suffered from a congenital issue, which would have caused issues later on if not addressed. However, the 21-year-old gave a testament to his grit with the ton, playing in only his first competitive tournament since the surgery. Dhull’s unbeaten knock helped Delhi put together 266 in their first innings in reply to TN’s 674/6d.

Speaking after the day’s play, Dhull said,

“This was a very important innings for me because this is after surgery. I have seen a lot. When you come back to playing on such a platform and start a new innings, this is good motivation and a positive sign”.

Yash Dhull’s century came at a crucial time

Bought by DC in the IPL 2022 auction, Yash Dhull has featured in only four games for the franchise, all of them coming in the IPL 2023 season. In those 4 games, Dhull had a subpar performance, scoring only 16 runs with a highest score of 13.

It is unlikely that Delhi Capitals will retain the youngster but his recent knock will definitely help his cause in the IPL 2025 auction. Yash Dhull has previously captained India’s Under-19 team and can be a long-term investment for a franchise.

He was also appointed as the captain of the Delhi Ranji team for the 2023-24 season but was removed after the team’s defeat against Puducherry in the previous season’s Ranji Trophy opener.

The century thus came at a crucial moment for the young player’s career, which was in need of a revival.
