A Rajasthan Royals (RR) star has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and will miss the upcoming ODI series against West Indies on the Caribbean shores. The player has been out of action for a while due to a calf injury.
Jos Buttler, England’s white-ball captain, will not take any part in the ODI rubber after being named in the squad initially, for he has not fully recovered yet. However, he will be part of the T20I series, where he will also lead the unit.
Liam Livingstone, the all-rounder from Lancashire, will be in charge of captaincy duties during the 50-over format in the absence of Jos. He has never led England before in any format, and this will be his maiden stint as a leader.
“Buttler will miss the three-match one-day international series against West Indies after suffering a slight setback in his rehabilitation. Liam Livingstone will step in as captain for the ODI series with the Lancashire all-rounder set to lead England for the first time. A decision on whether to add a replacement player to the squad is still to be decided.” stated the official release.
Jos Buttler has been out of action since England’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 in the semifinal fixture against India. He sustained a calf injury in July, which kept him out of The Hundred and white-ball series against Australia at home.
Initially, he was named in the ODI and T20I series against Australia, but his recovery remained slower than expected, which meant he couldn’t take part in the series, even though he remained with the team throughout the rubber. Phil Salt and Harry Brook led the side in T20Is and ODIs, respectively, which was their first appearance as the captain of England.

Buttler’s fitness remains a concern for England, given his recent history with calf injuries. He has attempted numerous comebacks since the fresh one but suffered a setback every time.
However, he is expected to join the team for the T20I series against West Indies. The three-match ODI series against West Indies begins on October 31 in Antigua.
