2 Indian Captains Likely to Enter IPL 2025 Auction Pool: Reports

In a fresh report published by The Hindu, it is revealed that two Indian players who captained their franchise last year will be coming into the auction ahead of the next season.

As the IPL retention deadline approaches, plenty of reports have been flowing all around the internet. In a fresh one published by The Hindu, it is revealed that two Indian players who captained their franchise last year will be coming into the auction ahead of the next season.

Shreyas Iyer, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC), are reportedly going to throw their names in the auction. The main reason behind this is the change in the rule, which states that if a player agrees to get retained for an amount higher than the retention slab, that higher amount will be deducted from the team’s purse.

Further, the highest bidder in the auction can increase the price of a player if a team decides to use RTM on its player. Hence, these two rules will naturally favour big players, and they can earn more than the first retention slab – INR 18 crores.

So, players like Iyer and Pant will be in high demand in the auction, and even if the team decides to use RTM once the bidding war is over, their price can surge drastically since the highest bidder can offer a higher amount to get a player. It’s a win-win situation for the player, irrespective of the team they end up in.

Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh also coming in the auction: Reports

The same report added that Kuldeep Yadav, the premium spinner of Delhi Capitals, and Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer of Punjab Kings (PBKS), are also willing to come into the auction. These two players are the main bowlers of their teams, and their respective franchises are expected to retain them.

Kuldeep is the biggest wicket-taker in the middle overs and has been a proven performer in the IPL. Meanwhile, Arshdeep offers ample value in the powerplay and death overs, making him an ideal speedster.

If the reports turn out to be true, the mega auction will be fun. The teams will spend as much as possible to get these players, and we might see some big changes from the next season.

The deadline to announce retained players is 31st October. The IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to be held in Saudi Arabia at the end of November.
