The deadline for all the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams to finalise their list of retained and released players for the IPL 2025 auction is drawing closer.
There is already growing anticipation surrounding it with multiple reports coming out. The biggest shockers than can be expected is the release of some of the top players likes KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant amongst others.

The IPL Governing Council has introduced updated guidelines for the 2025-27 cycle. Under these guidelines, IPL franchises can retain a maximum of six players, using either direct retention or the Right to Match (RTM) card. Notably, this cycle sees the reintroduction of the RTM card, last available during the 2018 Mega Auction.
According to the new retention policy, each team can keep up to five capped players and two uncapped players. However, franchises are restricted to retaining only six players in total, whether by direct retention or through RTM.
The total purse value for the IPL 2025 auction has been increased to INR 120 crore. Here’s a look at the new retention price slabs.
[In case a team retains a player for a peice higher than specific slab value, that amount will be deduced from the team’s salary cap. On the other hand, if the retention value is lesser than the slab value, then only the slab amount will be deducted from total purse value].

The IPL 2025 retention deadline is set for 5 PM IST on October 31, when teams need to submit their retained and released players list to the BCCI and the IPL GC.
