As Kohli registered another low score in the Mumbai Test, we note five horror dismissals this home season.
Virat Kohli is enduring a tough home Test season as he has been at sea in most innings and looked uncomfortable. He has 191 runs at an average of 23.87 in nine Test innings in 2024, with only one fifty.
He has been dismissed under 20 on six occasions in nine attempts, with four single-digit scores. Some of his dismissals were bizarre and surprising, something the team doesn’t expect from their premium batter.
As Kohli registered another low score in the Mumbai Test, we note five horror dismissals this home season.
It all started in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai when Virat Kohli decided to chase a loose delivery outside the off-stump line off Hasan Mahmud. The ball was moving around, but Kohli attempted an expansive drive away from the body instead of letting it go.
It was a typical Virat Kohli dismissal; he has been dismissed several times while chasing the ball by throwing his bat and still makes the same mistake. He left India in massive trouble, getting out on a score of 6 with India reeling at 34/3.
If the first-innings dismissal was due to a reckless shot, Kohli’s second-innings wicket came via an error in judgment. He came forward to a fuller-length delivery and looked to guide it on the leg-side region but was beaten on the inside edge.
The umpire gave it out, and Kohli decided against the review after a short discussion with Shubman Gill. However, the replays confirmed a spike as the ball passed near his willow, but the batter couldn’t feel it and let Bangladesh get a free wicket.

His best knock of this home season ended at the worst possible time – on the final delivery of the day. Glenn Phillips bowled a flatter delivery outside the off-stump line, to which Kohli poked and nicked it straight to the wicketkeeper.
He played so well during this stay but eventually played a false shot when he was looking to play out the day. Kohli should have converted it into a big one and would be massively disappointed to play that shot.
Arguably the worst dismissal of this season, Virat Kohli missed out on a full toss off Mitchell Santner’s delivery. He played across the line and went for a wild slog, resulting in a shocking dismissal.
There was some dip on the ball, which resulted in the ball sneaking under the bat and departing on a score of 1. He again left India in deep trouble as Kohli went back furious.
The latest dismissal was due to misjudgment, resulting in a run-out. Kohli attempted a quick run at mid-on, but Matt Henry made a direct hit to cut his innings short.
Again, it was in the final over of the day and was avoidable, for the Kiwis are quick on the field. He again left India in massive trouble, for they lost three wickets in nine deliveries during the end moments to allow New Zealand to come back into the game.
