LSG will head into the auction with a remaining purse value of INR 61 crores.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) took a brave call by letting go of most of their big stars like KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hooda ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline.
The franchise only decided to retain the explosive Caribbean cricketer Nicholas Pooran and a young Indian core comprising Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni.
They retained Pooran for a whopping INR 21 crore, the joint second-most amount paid to a player in this retention cycle along with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)talisman Virat Kohli and behind only Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Heinrich Klaasen (INR 23 crore).
Mayank and Bishnoi were the capped retentions at INR 11 crore each while Badoni and Mohsin will pocket INR 4 crore each.
While the franchise has kept a strong core, it will be interesting to see how they go about in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction. Ahead of the anticipated marquee event, LSG head coach Justin Langer shed light on the possible strategy.

The Aussie indicated that the management now intends to reclaim their previous squad members during the forthcoming IPL 2025 auction.
Speaking in a video posted by LSG on their official social media handle on X (formerly Twitter), Langer said,
“We have got one more Right To Match (RTM) and we are hoping to pick up as many of our players as possible from last year in the auction. Mr Goenka has thought long and hard about this and like I have said, we have talked over and over all the possibilities”.
LSG will now head into the IPL 2025 auction with a remaining purse value of INR 61 crores.
