Star RCB player saved from run out in Australia after opposition bizarrely didn’t appeal

No one appealed and even the leg umpire did not refer the decision upstairs.

During the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star got a bizarre reprieve after opposition players did not appeal for a clear dismissal chance. The incident happened during a match between Hobart Hurricanes Women and Sydney Sixers Women.

Australia and RCB batter Ellyse Perry, who is plying her trade with the Sydney Sixers in the ongoing WBBL, appeared to be run out, yet the umpire did not signal it, nor did anyone appeal.

With just five balls left in the Sixers’ innings, the Australian star sprinted from the non-striker’s end as Mathilda Carmichael played the ball toward gully.

The fielder quickly sent the ball to wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee, who grabbed it and swiftly removed the bails. However, no one appealed, and the square-leg umpire chose not to refer the decision upstairs, while Lee reset the stumps. Later, replays revealed that Perry hadn’t reached her crease in time. Lee appealed after spotting it on the big screen, but by then, it was too late to challenge the call.

Speaking about the match, the Hurricanes opted to bowl first after winning the toss, a choice that quickly proved effective as Zoe Cooke claimed an early wicket, sending Alyssa Healy back to the pavilion for just 4 runs. Shortly after, Sarah Jennifer Bryce was dismissed for a duck. Ashleigh Gardner and Hollie Armitage added 21 and 30 runs, respectively, while Ellyse Perry stabilized the innings with an impressive 86 runs, leading the Sixers to a total of 156 runs to defend.
