The Indian spinner was undoubtedly the most notable player to be let go by the DC franchise.
Delhi Capitals announced their retention list earlier today as they prepare for season 3 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025). The news of the same was confirmed via an official press release.
Following thorough assessments and discussions, the franchise has made the decision to part ways with four of their stars – Laura Harris, Poonam Yadav, Ashwani Kumari, and Aparna Mondal ahead of the upcoming WPL 2025 auction.
Indian leg-spinner Poonam Yadav was undoubtedly the most notable player to be let go by the DC franchise. Once a key figure in India’s lineup across various formats, Poonam has not appeared in international cricket since March 2022 and also did not feature in any matches during the previous WPL season.
Speaking about the recent decisions, JSW Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly said,
“Letting go of players from a successful squad is never easy, but that’s the challenge and beauty of franchise cricket.”

Delhi Capitals has remained a strong contender in the WPL, making it to the final in both of the tournament’s editions. However, the championship has so far slipped away from the Meg Lanning-led team.
In 2023, they were defeated by Mumbai Indians in the final, and this year, they were overcome by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the summit clash.
The auction for the third season of the Women’s Premier League is likely to be scheduled for next month.
