Released KKR batter smashes Virat Kohli’s record in series decider to push up IPL 2025 auction chances

With his eighth century, Gurbaz now matches Sachin Tendulkar and Quinton de Kock for the most ODI tons before turning 23, surpassing Virat Kohli, who had seven.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan’s keeper-batter and former KKR player, played a brilliant knock, scoring a century to guide his team to a commanding five-wicket victory over Bangladesh on Monday.

In the final match of the series, Bangladesh set Afghanistan a target of 245. Although Gurbaz didn’t get much support from the other end, with Afghanistan falling to 84/3 in 20.1 overs, he did most of the scoring.

However, he partnered with Azmatullah Omarzai for a match-winning century stand, and Afghanistan completed the chase with 10 balls to spare. Gurbaz scored 101 off 120 balls, featuring seven sixes and five fours.

With the IPL mega auction approaching, Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s brilliant knock is expected to attract the attention of several teams eager to sign him for the upcoming season. His century has likely increased his value.

After being released by KKR and retaining 6 players, KKR has no Right to Match (RTM) left. If they want to bring him back, they will have to compete in a bidding war with other teams.
