Tilak got underneath the ball and used his bottom hand to guide it with the line, using ample power in his shot.
Tilak Varma hit a massive maximum off a released Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer during the third T20I between South Africa and India in Centurion. It came on the third delivery of the 16th over and travelled very far in the boundary.
Gerald Coetzee bowled an overpitched delivery in an attempt to bowl yorker outside the leg-stump line, and the batter, who was batting set after coming at No.3, wasn’t going to miss it. He got underneath the ball and used his bottom hand to guide it with the line, using ample power in his shot.
Tilak whipped it over the deep square leg region, and the ball came from the middle of the bat, sailing all the way into the boundary. The ball went on to the third tier, giving another maximum to Tilak and the Indian team.

It was a poor delivery, asking to be hit, and Tilak ensured giving it the right treatment, earning the second six of the over, with the first one coming on the first delivery of the set. He didn’t have to do much in this shot and just guided it to move into the 80s.
When India lost a wicket on just the second delivery of the match, Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the team, didn’t come to bat at No.3. Instead, the team management sent Tilak Varma, the left-handed batter, who got a promotion in the game.
The move did wonders for the player and the team as Tilak went on to notch up his maiden T20I century, justifying the promotion. He looked in tremendous touch from the first ball of the innings and played his shots all around the ground during his sensational knock.
Eventually, he remained unbeaten in the innings, scoring 107 runs in 56 balls, comprising eight boundaries and seven maximums. He scored 69.15% of his runs via boundaries.
His terrific ton ensured India reached a big 219 in the first innings. South Africa would need to bat exceptionally well if they are to chase this target in the second dig.
