Tilak Varma hit a magnificent ton in the fourth T20I against South Africa in Johannesburg, his second in the format. He took only 41 balls to reach the milestone, becoming the third-fastest centurion for India in T20Is.
The two fastest on the list are Rohit Sharma, who took 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017, and Sanju Samson, a 40-ball century against Bangladesh last month. Tilak’s 41-ball ton is also the fastest by a batter against South Africa in T20Is.

It was his second consecutive ton, becoming only the second Indian batter after Sanju Samson, to hit consecutive centuries in T20Is. He is already in the top five batters with the most centuries for India in the shortest format, joining KL Rahul, who also has two tons.
It was not just a century, Tilak Varma broke numerous records on his way to a remarkable ton. His knock ensured India posted the second-highest total (283/1) against a full-member side in T20Is.
Further, Tilak hit ten sixes during his stay, the joint-most by an Indian batter in a T20I innings. He joins Rohit Sharma, who achieved this feat against Sri Lanka in 2017, and Sanju Samson, who replicated it against South Africa last week.
Tilak had a strike rate of 255.32, the second-highest by an Indian batter in a T20I innings where he scored 100+ runs. Rohit Sharma again tops the list with a magnificent strike rate of 274.41 against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Further, Tilak is only the fifth batter in the world to hit consecutive centuries in the shortest format, for he scored 107 runs in the previous match. His blitzkrieg knock ensured India posted the highest-ever total against South Africa in T20Is, breaking West Indies’ 258/3 in Centurion last year.
