In the IPL 2024 season, Chahar played in eight matches for CSK before being sidelined for the rest of the tournament due to a hamstring injury
Deepak Chahar is expected to be one of the prominent fast bowlers available at the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction. The right-arm pacer has faced a challenging period in his career, grappling with recurring injury issues. Over the past three years, Chahar has spent 18 months undergoing rehabilitation to recover from multiple setbacks.
In the IPL 2024 season, Chahar played in eight matches for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before being sidelined for the rest of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. However, he has since made a successful return to the domestic circuit and is eager to participate in the upcoming edition of the lucrative league.
Given his valuable experience in bowling in the powerplays and providing crucial breakthroughs, let’s take a look at the three teams who will be targeting Chahar at the auction in Jeddah.

Despite not being a traditional RTM (Right to Match) candidate due to his previous high-value purchase, there is speculation regarding how the five-time IPL winners might handle his potential return if he is not acquired by another team. With Chahar serving as a valuable powerplay specialist with the ball and showcasing the ability to make significant contributions with the bat lower down the order, his presence is highly prized.
His extensive experience with CSK, combined with his skill set, could lead to the franchise employing strategic negotiations or a method similar to an RTM approach if permitted by the rules to secure his return.
Chahar has himself mentioned that he would like to play for the Rajasthan Royals if not retained by CSK for the next season. Furthermore, the Royals decided to part ways with pacers such as Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, and Nandre Burger, all of whom had served as new-ball bowlers for the team during the 2024 season. Instead, they opted to retain Sandeep Sharma, the sole pacer in their lineup, who is expected to play a key role in controlling the opposition’s batting during the death overs.
This opens the door for Deepak Chahar to be a strong candidate for the RR team in the powerplay overs. If fully fit, Chahar is capable of taking early wickets and can bowl his full complement of overs if necessary in the first 10 overs.
Notably, Chahar has claimed 55 wickets against top-order batsmen out of his total 77 dismissals in the league, making up more than 70% of his career tally. The 32-year-old’s previous experience playing on the Jaipur pitch through his domestic career with Rajasthan adds to his advantage.
Delhi Capitals have a healthy budget at their disposal and could consider adding a player like Arshdeep Singh to their squad. Over the years, bowling has been a weak point for DC, and they will likely look to strengthen this area with a key acquisition. With Arshdeep joining the retained duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, the Capitals would form a formidable Indian bowling unit. A solid bowling lineup is essential for success, and DC may target this as a way to finally clinch their first IPL title.
