IPL 2025 Auction a ‘Distraction’ for Australian Players During Border-Gavaskar Trophy? Pat Cummins Answers

To manage his dual responsibilities, Vettori has already flown to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to attend the auction on November 24 and 25.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s first Test begins on Friday, November 22, but there’s additional excitement off the field as the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction coincides with the third and fourth days of the match. This overlap has sparked discussions about how players from both teams might be impacted by the auction events.

The scheduling has also posed challenges for individuals involved in both events, including Australia’s assistant coach Dan Vettori, who also serves as the head coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

To manage his dual responsibilities, Vettori has already flown to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to attend the auction on November 24 and 25. Despite his absence, Australia’s captain Pat Cummins reassured that Vettori was involved in all the team’s preparations and will stay updated during the Test.

“Dan has obviously flown over there. But he has been here for the whole prep, we’ve done a lot meetings, done all the chats and he will be watching and keeping an eye on it anyway,” he told reporters on the eve of the first Test.

Pat Cummins Assures Auction Won’t Impact Team Mindset

Cummins himself is not part of the auction, having been retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad as their captain. However, most of his teammates are in the auction pool. Cummins emphasized that the simultaneous auction is unlikely to distract the players, who remain focused on the Test match.

“For the players, I don’t think so. Most of the guys have been in the auction before and the reality is you can’t really do anything. Just sitting back and seeing if you get selected or not. It’s not a distraction as far as I can see it,” he said.

The first Test of the series will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
