Mumbai Indians player Tilak Varma set a new T20 world record in domestic cricket by scoring a century against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium C in Rajkot.
Tilak Varma came to bat at number 3 for Hyderabad very early in the innings after Gahlaut Rahul Singh was dismissed in the first over. He then built a solid 122-run partnership with Tanmay Agarwal, before Tanmay was out for 55.

The MI star smashed a stunning century in just 51 balls and went on to score 151 off 67 balls, hitting 14 fours and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 225.37. His explosive knock helped Hyderabad post a massive total of 248-4 in 20 overs.
Earlier this month, Tilak Varma scored two brilliant centuries against South Africa in the 3rd and 4th T20Is. With this latest century, he has now become the first batter to score three T20 hundreds, a feat never achieved before in domestic cricket.
In that series against South Africa, Tilak Varma became the second Indian and the fifth player in international cricket to score back-to-back centuries in T20Is. Before him, Sanju Samson was the first Indian to achieve this feat, scoring a century against Bangladesh and another in the 1st T20I against South Africa.
Tilak Varma was the highest scorer in the series, amassing 280 runs in 4 matches at an impressive average of 140 and a staggering strike rate of 198.58.
Normally batting at number 4, Tilak asked India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, to promote him to number 3. The decision worked perfectly, as Tilak went on to score centuries in the last two T20Is.
With the form Tilak has shown, he is on track to become a key player in the Indian team.
