Mumbai Indians, who had released Tim David before the auction, showed minimal enthusiasm in bidding for the power-hitter. On the other hand, RCB decided against using their Right to Match (RTM) card to retain Will Jacks.
Adding to the mystery, MI owner Akash Ambani made a notable gesture by approaching the RCB camp to shake hands shortly after they secured the England star, fueling speculation about a possible strategic understanding between the franchises.
Will Jacks made a strong impression in his debut IPL season in 2024, playing eight matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He scored 230 runs at an impressive strike rate of 175.57. His standout performance came against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, where he smashed a breathtaking 41-ball century, remaining unbeaten.

The handshake between Akash Ambani and the RCB camp has sparked curiosity, with many wondering if the two franchises strategically avoided retaining their former players to facilitate a swap-like deal. While the exact dynamics of the auction remain uncertain, both MI and RCB have strengthened their squads with these acquisitions.
There were also speculation that RCB could have played a role in Hardik Pandya’s move from GT to MI before the IPL 2024 auction, highlighted by their big signing of Cameron Green.
