3 Backup KKR Players From 2024 Who Will Be First Team Players in IPL 2025 For Their New Teams

Due to a strong core of players, several quality ones couldn’t find a spot in KKR's XI for any game last season.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had one of the strongest squads in IPL 2024. It had covered all bases, with specialists for each role, which led them to the title last season.

Due to a strong core of players, several quality ones couldn’t find a spot in the XI for any game last season. As a fresh mega auction took place, most of those players have found a new team and might start in the playing XI.

We look at three such players who were backups in KKR’s squad but will be first-choice players in their new teams.

Sherfane Rutherford

Sherfane Rutherford was really unfortunate to not play for KKR, where he remained primarily as abackup for Andre Russell. During the IPL 2025 auction, he was picked by Gujarat Titans (GT) at INR 2.60 crores and will most likely feature from the start.

GT have let David Miller go and will need a batter for a similar role, and Rutherford can do it brilliantly. He has a strong game vs pace and is perfectly suited to bat between No.4 and 6 in GT’s batting lineup.

Allah Ghazanfar

Mumbai Indians (MI) acquired Allah Ghazanfar for INR 4.80 crores in this IPL auction. He was with KKR last season but couldn’t play any game for the Knight Riders.

However, MI might look to make him play all the games since they don’t have any other specialist spinner capable of playing all the games. He is a mystery spinner who has a range of variations and can also bat a bit in the lower order, making him a valuable asset.

Suyash Sharma

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have spent a hefty sum on Suyash Sharma. There were plenty of quality spinners in KKR’s squad, so Suyash didn’t get enough game time.

However, in RCB, he will act as a first-choice spinner and is expected to play almost all games unless his performances shrink significantly or he gets injured. Suyash is a modern-day spinner who bowls at quicker pace and can agitate the batters with his accuracy.
