Given their squad, let’s take a look at the four key overseas players likely to feature in GT’s playing XI for IPL 2025.
Jos Buttler has been acquired by Gujarat Titans for INR 15.75 crore after being released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. The England white-ball captain, who had been with RR since 2018, became the highest-paid overseas player of the auction.
Buttler will be an important overseas player in the Gujarat lineup, also taking on the wicketkeeping responsibilities. He is expected to partner with Shubman Gill as the opening duo for IPL 2025, bringing his vast experience to strengthen the team’s batting order.
Gujarat Titans bought Sherfane Rutherford for INR 2.60 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. He had limited chances with Kolkata Knight Riders, where he primarily served as a backup for Andre Russell. However, he is now set to play a bigger role with GT.
With David Miller being released, Rutherford will likely take on a similar role in the middle order. Strong against pace, he is expected to make a valuable contribution to the team’s batting. Although Gujarat Titans acquired Glenn Phillips as well, Sherfane Rutherford is expected to be the preferred choice for the upcoming season.
Rashid Khan, one of the most impactful T20 players, was retained by Gujarat Titans for INR 18 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Known for his skills with both the bat and ball, Rashid has proven himself to be a match-winner in the shortest format of the game.
As a bowler, Rashid excels in various phases of the game, often taking crucial wickets despite bowling in difficult overs. He is also a reliable lower-order batter, capable of contributing valuable runs when needed. With his all-around abilities, Rashid will play a vital role for Gujarat Titans in the upcoming season, forming a strong spin duo with Washington Sundar.
Gujarat Titans secured Kagiso Rabada for INR 10.75 crore in the IPL 2025 auction after a bidding battle with RCB and MI. He was released by Punjab Kings ahead of the auction, and although Punjab had the option to use the Right to Match (RTM) card, they decided against it, allowing Rabada to join Gujarat.
With the addition of Rabada alongside Mohammed Siraj, Gujarat now has a strong bowling pair that can effectively handle both the powerplay and death overs. Although they have also signed Gerald Coetzee, Rabada is expected to be the first-choice bowler for Gujarat in the upcoming season.
