During Mumbai’s fixture against Services, Shaw came to open the innings but couldn’t last for more than three deliveries on the crease.
Prithvi Shaw is going through a horrid time and registered another failure in his team’s latest Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game. During Mumbai’s fixture against Services, Shaw came to open the innings but couldn’t last for more than three deliveries on the crease.
Poonam Poonia dismissed him on just the third ball of the game to provide an ideal start to Services with the ball. His faulty technique came to the fore again as Mumbai were off to the worst possible start after being asked to bat first.
It was Shaw’s second duck in this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and his scores in five innings in the competition read: 0, 40, 23, 0 & 33. Earlier, he was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy side on disciplinary grounds, and his methods have been too erratic to reap sustained success.
There have been reports about his indiscipline and lack of commitment, even though nothing concrete proves these reports true. Shaw has a history of controversies, and despite being given numerous chances by his domestic side Mumbai, he has failed to grab them, churning out poor shows one after another.
Last week, Prithvi Shaw was unsold at the IPL 2025 auction, for no team showed interest in getting him, mostly due to his recent poor showing. He set his base price at INR 75 Lakhs but still went unsold despite a low base price.
Since the start of his IPL career in 2018, Shaw has been with Delhi Capitals and also reaped ample success in the initial years, prompting the team to retain him before the IPL 2022 auction. However, his form shrunk drastically, which led to DC releasing him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction and showing no incentive to get him back at a lower price.
There’s still time for Shaw, and he will look to work on chinks in his armour so that he regains his lost form. Once this bad patch ends, things will start falling into place for him.
He is too talented to remain quiet for a long period. The talent is palpable, and performances might also come at some stage, but his recent returns are frustrating.
