4 First-Choice Overseas Players for LSG Playing XI in IPL 2025

Let’s take a look at their four first-choice overseas picks for LSG Playing XI in IPL 2025.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made a big move in the auction but their overall strategy raised some eyebrows. While they have a few key players, they didn’t sign many quality additions, leaving certain areas of the squad weaker.

The team will rely heavily on their retained players to step up. With only six overseas options in the squad, their auction choices were unexpected, and they could struggle to compete against stronger sides.

Let’s take a look at their four first-choice overseas picks for LSG Playing XI in IPL 2025.

Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 3.40 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. The Australian all-rounder was released by Delhi Capitals prior to the auction, and after a bidding war with Sunrisers Hyderabad, LSG secured him. Marsh will be one of the first-choice overseas players for the team.

Known for his powerful hitting and effective bowling, Marsh brings valuable all-round skills to LSG’s squad. The team will look to leverage his contributions with both bat and ball in the upcoming season.

Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran was the top retention for Lucknow Super Giants at INR 21 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. In IPL 2024, Pooran was the second-highest run-scorer for LSG, just behind KL Rahul. He also stepped in as interim captain and wicketkeeper during Rahul’s injury absence in the first half of the season.

Widely regarded as one of the best power-hitters in the game, Pooran is expected to play a key role in LSG’s batting lineup for the 2025 season. He is set to make crucial contributions with the bat and will be a regular in the playing XI as one of the 4 overseas players.

David Miller

Lucknow Super Giants secured David Miller for INR 7.5 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, outbidding teams like GT, RCB, and DC. Despite having the option to use the Right to Match (RTM), GT chose not to retain Miller, allowing him to become one of LSG’s first-choice overseas players.

Miller’s explosive middle-order batting adds strength to LSG’s lineup, alongside players like Nicholas Pooran. His ability to accelerate innings makes him a valuable asset for the team in the upcoming season.

Shamar Joseph

Lucknow Super Giants used the Right to Match (RTM) card to buy back Shamar in the IPL 2025 auction for INR 75 lakhs. In IPL 2024, he featured in just one game for LSG, where he conceded 47 runs in his spell. Despite that, the franchise has shown confidence in him by bringing him back for the upcoming season.

Shamar is the only overseas bowler LSG has added to their squad this time. With limited overseas options in the bowling department, the team is likely to depend heavily on him, making him a strong contender for the playing XI.
