Rohit Sharma Ends Mystery on His Batting Position for Adelaide Test

Rohit Sharma has finally revealed his batting position for the Adelaide Test.

After ample speculation and suspense, Rohit Sharma’s batting position is finally revealed a day before the second Test in Adelaide. He joined a press conference, where he disclosed his batting position for the upcoming game, and probably for the series.

Rohit stated that KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal will continue opening the innings, and he will bat somewhere in the middle order. He added that changing batting position won’t be easy, but his batting in the middle order is the best for the team.

“KL will open (in Adelaide). The way he batted and his partnership with Jaiswal was instrumental in that first test win. The way he has batted outside India, he deserves it. I will bat somewhere in the middle. It was a fairly simple decision. Personally, it wasn’t easy (as a batsman) but for the team, it was an easy decision to make.”

The indications were already there when Rohit didn’t come to open in the warm-up fixture against Prime Minister’s XI a few days back and batted at No.4. Maybe he will slot himself at No.5, with Rishabh Pant moving a position below at No.6 in Adelaide.

Rohit Sharma’s recent form a major concern for India

Rohit Sharma is going through a lean patch and was among the worst performers during the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand earlier this year. He scored 133 runs at an average of 13.30 in ten innings and could only score on fifty.

The more concerning part was his struggles vs pace since that is Rohit’s strong department. When Rohit started opening the innings, he was skilled enough to handle deliveries on the third stump or outside the off-stump line.

However, his dismissals against pacers in the home season indicated his waning expertise and issues with judging the balls in the corridor. Now that he is changing his position, Rohit will face further troubles.

Fortunately, Rohit has previous experience playing in the middle order, which would be handy in this game. He looked good in the nets and hopes to replicate the success during the game.
