IPL 2025 will resume on May 17 with a game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru.
England’s trio of Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals), Sam Curran and Jamie Overton (Both Chennai Super Kings) will reportedly not be returning to India for the completion of IPL 2025. According to Cricbuzz, a top official of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has informed that while some England players will return to India for IPL 2025, other players have opted not to do so.
Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell (Both Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians) and Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans) are among the England players who will reach India on Wednesday night to take part in IPL 2025. However, it is still not clear whether Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Phil Salt will return to India for the IPL’s resumption.
IPL 2025 was suspended on May 9 for one week because of the India-Pakistan political tensions and will resume on May 17 with a game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru.
Rajasthan Royals pacer Jofra Archer played all 12 matches and took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 9.47. He is currently Rajasthan Royals’ highest wicket-taker this season but that will certainly change with Maheesh Theekshana (11 wickets) just behind the England speedster.
Coming to Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Sam Curran, the 26-year-old played just five matches wherein he scored 114 runs and took one wicket. Curran scored 88 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS), which however ended up in a losing cause.
Jamie Overton has had even limited appearances for the Yellow Brigade, playing just three matches while scoring just 15 runs. Chennai Super Kings do not intend to name replacements for their two England players.

Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, have clarified that Archer is missing because of an injury. “It is not a case of not being willing because we are out of reckoning for playoffs. He is nurturing an injury and we are prioritizing his fitness,” an official of the franchise told Cricbuzz.
Both Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are out of the race to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs. The five-time champions are in 10th place with six points from 12 games whereas the Royals are in ninth place with the same number of points from the same number of games. Rajasthan Royals are ahead of Chennai Super Kings because of a superior Net Run-Rate (NRR).
