‘Take a Bow’: Netizens Overwhelmed After Shreyas Iyer Powers Punjab Kings to IPL 2025 Final With Hard-Fought Win Over Mumbai Indians

Shreyas Iyer scored 87 runs from 41 balls to power Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shreyas Iyer led from the front with an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls to beat Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Qualifier 2 clash and power his team to the IPL 2025 final. Punjab Kings will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (May 3). This means that a new IPL champion will be crowned.

Punjab Kings were set a target of 204 by Mumbai Indians (MI) in a game that was delayed by more than two hours due to rain. The 2014 runners-up were in a spot of bother at one stage but Shreyas Iyer forged a crucial 84-run partnership with Nehal Wadhera for the fourth wicket.

That stand proved to be the game-changer for Punjab Kings as they scripted a five-wicket win over the five-time champions.
Netizens were in awe of Shreyas Iyer’s fabulous knock against Mumbai Indians. Here are a few reactions:

AB de Villiers hails Shreyas Iyer

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru star AB de Villiers had words of praise for Shreyas Iyer following the latter’s knock. “I’m a huge fan of Shreyas Iyer. His today innings was out of the world,” he said after the match.

Talking about the chase, Punjab Kings were off to a shaky start after they lost Prabhsimran Singh (6) in the third over. They were 13/1 at that time and were further down to 72/3 in the eighth over following the dismissal of Josh Inglis (38). Nehal Wadhera (48) also contributed vital runs and his stand with Shreyas Iyer changed the complexion of the game.

However, Ashwani Kumar saw off Nehal Wadhera in the 16th over, leaving Punjab Kings in a spot of bother at 156/4. Shreyas Iyer was unbeaten on 42 when Wadhera was dismissed. However, Iyer was unfazed by Wadhera’s dismissal and almost single-handedly won the match for Punjab Kings from then on.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians went on to post 203/6 after being asked to bat. Tilak Varma (44) and Suryakumar Yadav (44) were the key batters for MI, but Jonny Bairstow (38) and Naman Dhir’s (37) knocks cannot be counted out too. However, their efforts eventually went in.
