Why You Need to Check Out the Big Bash League

The people in the land down under love their cricket. It is no wonder that the Big Bash League was introduced in 2011 and that it’s going strong to this day. The league was established in order for Australians to have a bit of cricket during the summer months.

Do not get confused here, the league kicks off in December, on the 15th and it ends on the 27th of January. That’s right, the Aussies have it all reversed. The 2024/25 season is almost upon us, and we can say with certainty that it can’t come quickly enough.

Just like many other things in Australia, this league is not too popular outside the southern continent. We’re about to try and change that. How? That’s a good question. Well, we’re going to share seven reasons why you should start loving the Big Bash League starting right now.

We’re kidding, you don’t have to start immediately. Start by reading this article, and wrap it up when the 2024/25 seasons are done come late January. Check out what makes this cricket league so special.

Superstar Players

While cricket is not as popular as football or basketball it is possible to make a name for yourself and be a star in your own right playing it. If you’re a fan of the sport, then you know that Big Bash League has some household names on its roster. If you’re not, and you don’t know this fact, we’re here to tell you.

BBL has big squads, plenty of teams, and some big cricket names playing the game. Some of the biggest names that are playing in the league or have played in the past include Matt Short, Tim David, Ben McDermott, Will Sutherland, Ollie Davies, Tanveer Sangha, Henry Hunt, Steve O’Keefe, and Rashid Khan among many others.

Quick, Short & Full of Action

No one likes a long match with no action. While the sport in its own right is interesting for those who love it, cricket could benefit from being a quicker-paced game lasting less. This is where BBL steps in. With it, you get more sixes and wickets in much less time.

The sport is easier to consume, and it sometimes appears to be a never-ending action spectacle. So, if you don’t like to spend the entire day watching a game that tests your patience, this is your kind of fun. Be free to try it out.

Top Notch Entertainment

BBL is appealing to broader masses due to its shorter format but that’s not all. It is entertaining as hell. With Big Bash League you have all these international stars playing each other, breaking records in the process, and delivering an instant dose of fun your way.

For casual viewers, it’s good to know that it’s not all about the on-field action. You have mascots, cheerleaders, giveaways, live commentary, and even fireworks all on the spot.

The Game Keeps Evolving

Cricket is a traditional sport. It’s been around for a few centuries, so it’s hard to change some of its fundamental rules. No one is trying to do that in the BBL. Instead, they’re making new rules, and are altering the format of the competition to attract more fans.

If you’re a hardcore fan of the sport, this might not be your cup of tea. But for a casual viewer and someone just getting into cricket this could be a pleasant entree.

It’s a Show

As we already said, the Big Bash is not the only sport. It is an entertainment product. We’re going to be free to compare it to WWE. Its program starts with top-end commentary and mic ‘d-up players. This combo lifts the entertainment factor to another level.

With Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Damien Flemming, and Alison Mitchell commenting on the games, you already know that you’re in for a lot of fun.

The Viewing Experience

When the season of BBL enters its final stages the best place to watch the games is of course Perth’s Optus Stadium. But, if you’re not in town, and you’re bored of watching the sport on your TV or through streaming services, you should know that Aussies love this sport. That’s why they go out and enjoy BBL with others at bars and hangouts such as Varsity.

BBL Fantasy

Just like the NFL, NBA, the Premier League, and the World Cup, Big Bash League has its fantasy version. So, if the sport itself is not enough, and you feel you don’t know enough about it, it is best that you make your fantasy team and join a fantasy league. It is quite popular, and it will help you make friends, learn about the sport, and enjoy the time spent with BBL.
