BCCI lists inclusion of two new IPL teams as main agenda in AGM on on Dec 24

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have taken a first formal step towards having a bigger and grander Indian Premier League in 2021 with the Annual General Body meeting having the discussion as the main agenda.

The Indian Premier League in 2020 broke all records and niched itself to a grander audience thanks to the Covid-induced lockdown around the world, but 2021 promises to be bigger. With the BCCI planning to host the upcoming edition with two more teams, the official approval might come in as soon as December 24 when the AGM is set to meet.

BCCI to elect new Vice-president as well

As many as 23 matters were listed for discussion at the 89th BCCI AGM which was signed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. The notice also listed the Vice-president election as one more important call which was vacated since Mahim Varma resigned from his post.

It must be noted that the Supreme Court is slated to hear the case of Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah’s proposed extension at the board with a change in constitution on December 9. That will have a lot of bearing on the way the AGM pans out in the coming days.

The AGM will also discuss the “election of two representatives” in the IPL Governing Council and induction/appointment of two members of the General Body and one representative of the Indian Cricketers’ Association as per the amended BCCI constitution.

The BCCI will also have a discussion on their stand in cricket’s inclusion for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. BCCI’s representative to the ICC, Cricket Committee and Standing Committee, and the Umpires’ Committee will also be formed in the process.
