‘Shameless act’ – Virat Kohli gets flak on social media for chewing gum during national anthem

Virat Kohli is no longer the Indian captain, but the spotlight simply fails to elude him with the former captain getting serious flak on social media for chewing gum during the national anthem ahead of the third ODI in Cape Town.

Having lost the first two ODIs, the third game in Cape Town saw India make a series of changes to their playing XI – Suryakumar Yadav, Jayant Yadav, Prasidh Krishna and Deepak Chahar come in for Venkatesh Iyer, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur.

Bowling first, India restricted South Africa to 287 in 50 overs, but the trending video on social media happened from before the match. During the national anthem where the teams were lined up, the camera panned through Indian players and showed Kohli chewing on his gum while the anthem played on.

The now-viral video on social media attracted immense flak for the former Indian skipper with the video captioned as “ambassador of the nation”, clearly mocking Kohli for his act.
