WATCH: Virat Kohli wants change of field; Rohit Sharma says no and Washi gets wicket next ball

With the Indian captaincy debate raging, Indian fans received more material to get into fan wars after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli engaged in a fielding debate during the first ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad.

Rohit Sharma produced a masterstroke when he brought Washington Sundar, back into the ODI team after five years, into the attack early. In his third over, with West Indies one down, former skipper Virat Kohli suggested a field change and indicated to the fielder to make the move.

However, current skipper Rohit Sharma intervened and was seen indicating that there’s no need for the field change and to stick with where he was standing.

Incidentally, a wicket fell off the very next ball with Washington Sundar sending back Brandon King with a catch taken at mid-wicket.

Washington Sundar’s breakthrough over saw him take another wicket to dent West Indies further. Yuzvendra Chahal then had Windies in a tangle when he sent back Nicholas Pooran LBW and followed it up with Kieron Pollard’s wicket – bowled off the first ball he faced with a sharp googly.

Chahal completed 100 ODI wickets in the process. He later added a third wicket when he had Shamarh Brooks caught behind as the visitors were left reeling at 78/6 after 22 overs.

meanwhile, while the original social media tweet credited Virat Kohli for changing the field, it was soon corrected by fans who pointed out that Rohit had actually reversed the field change and decided against it.
