WATCH: Arshdeep Singh fires a throw straight back at Saurabh Tiwary’s unmentionables

A funny incident involving Saurabh Tiwary and Arshdeep Singh gave the rest of the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) players and fans a bit of a breather from the high intensity with which the Tuesday (September 28) night’s crucial IPL 2021 encounter was played.

A throw from PBKS pacer Arshdeep hit MI batter Saurabh Tiwary in the unmentionables and not long from then the left-hander was seen collapsed near the side of the pitch as the pain from the blow started to kick in.

Understandably funny for everyone else but Tiwary, the incident saw the initially worried-looking PBKS players, including Arshdeep, circle around him to check if the batter is alright before they also started wearing a smirk on their faces.

Saurabh Tiwary drops on the ground after being hit on unmentionables

It was the fourth ball of the 12th over in MI’s run-chase. Saurabh Tiwary made a defensive prod to a straight ball from Arshdeep Singh. The left-hander had not even completed his push when he was forced into making a desperate attempt to protect the lower half of his body from Arshdeep’s throw.

The bowler saw the batter take a few steps outside his crease while in his stroke and thought he has a chance of inflicting a run-out. But the throw hit Tiwary instead of the stumps and hit him where it hurts the most.

The batter tried to stop the throw from doing its damage with the left hand but he missed it and the ball crashed onto his unmentionables. Evidently, Tiwary had initially raised that left hand of his as if to signal to Arshdeep that he is not making any attempt of a run. But by the time the bowler could spot that, he had already made his throw.

Saurabh Tiwary took a couple of steps to the side of the playing arena and rolled onto the turf after initially being on the haunches, while Arshdeep, PBKS captain and wicketkeeper KL Rahul as well his batting partner Hardik Pandya got around him.

Despite the pain, Tiwary could afford to offer a smile thereafter as Rahul, Arshdeep and Hardik tried to cheer him up through laugh and chat. The MI physio immediately checked upon Tiwary and he was good to resume his innings from the next ball.

Saurabh Tiwary played a pivotal knock of 45 from 37 balls and helped MI successfully navigate through their tricky run-chase of 136 against PBKS in Abu Dhabi.
